Are we ready to get primitive?
Despite its ‘M’ rating, Valentine’s Dei has been pretty tame so far. But that’s about to change. I’m not entirely sure what Sammi has in store, but if you’re under the impression this book is all about civil conversations, and you’re averse to violence, drugs or nudity, you might want to consider bailing out before the shit hits the proverbial fan.
Don’t forget, “the hungry are the reckless”. And I suspect food is high on the list of priorities of most Artemis cultists.
And if all that ain’t enough to whet your appetite…
Today I received the fist batch of the chapter 1 print edition. It looks good. Really good. Much better than it does on the screen. But I’ve always been an advocate of the dead tree edition. Dom’s Hestia notes and Z’s first vignette have been expanded, and I added an extra page of the story. Things looked OK on the site, but once I started putting the book together I realised there was a sharp jump between Dom inside and outside Lynette’s house. The pacing is much better with the extra page.
It’s available from IndyPlanet, but anyone interested in acquiring a signed copy should contact Sammi at SammiEmery_VD@hotmail.com with their mailing details. We’ll set up a payment system soon, but right now we need to get an idea of numbers and locations. We need mailing address so we can calculate postage.
And don’t forget, retailers can also order this through ComicsMonkey, so if you can convince your local store to stock Valentine’s Dei you can just buy it there.
Did I forget anything, Sammi? If so you can add it.

I’ve got my copy, and it truly is so awesome on paper! It flows together really well and the printing job is superb. Now begins the countdown to Ch.2 print edition…
Jeez Noitman, impatient much? You only just got your grubby mitts on issue 1!
The print editions do look rather swanky! I realise some people might not be keen to attempt the fuss for a signed copy, so I reinforced the link to indy planet.
If you miss out on a copy, they’re selling red hot!, still give me your details as in the next week to two weeks Pete and I will probably lodge a new shipment for signage!
p.s. this is my favourite cover so far
Glad Sammi likes it.
I think this one comes closest to that pulp cover look I’ve been trying to achieve.
Well, the only thing I really care about is – will it be really gory? Because if it’s more than just blood that gets drawn I might want to opt out before I get to see wounds I didn’t even think of as possible before… I’m a bit sensitive to stuff like that.
I don’t like drawing excessive gore. I know some people are into it, but I don’t really get it. I prefer to simply imply anything particularly nasty, but at the end of the day it’s up to Sammi what happens in the story. Sammi?
I don’t like excessive gore either. It really just seems offputting. I do accept that in alot of the crime noir stuff I have seen, that there is violence as part of the genre. Most of it is, of course, fisticuffs.
Ain’t going to be any entrails or chopped limbs in this piece. Some people who get the %$#* kicked out of them, yes, but not gore like I think you mean.
Ah, that’s a relief to know. I think the story to this series is really interesting and I’d like to see where it goes, so it’d be a shame if I couldn’t read it.
Thanks for the reply!
Whoo~!
Can’t wait to get my printed copy and share with the rest of the illo crew and get them hooked too!
Well if the covers are any indications, it’s not going to be for everyone’s taste!

Bravo on this cover, man it rocks, colour, design and illustration.
The typeface fits perfectly.
The shadow of the claw really draws the views eyes onto Dom’s butt…
Great rendering of the background.
Strong, but not enough to steal the foreground.
Thanks man.
Anyone who doesn’t like it can sod off.
Yes! Bring more readers
I like this idea.
This is also my favourite cover so far. I am glad you like the shadow, I think Pete was a bit unsure about it but I think it’s great!
